Research Papers of Elijah Green - True Story by Terry Allen Green
Research Papers of Elijah Green - True Story by Terry Allen GreenResearch Papers of Elijah Green: True Story by Terry Allen Green is a biography of Elijah Green, first President of the United States. It tells the story of how this civil rights activist became an 'unseemly, hypocritical man' and learned how to change the behavior of his heart. The book is written in the form of a diary kept by Elijah Green while he worked in the civil rights movement. The book goes into detail about his involvement in the movement, his relationship with MLK, Martin Luther King Jr., William Kennedy and others. The story starts with Green's early childhood and education. He was born into a family that was part of the social classes, in a conservative household. His father was a doctor and the family was very wealthy, but Green described himself as being 'normal' with a 'pretty normal family.' Growing up he did well at school and won several awards and scholarships, including a Rhodes scholarship to Oxfor d University.During this time, he experienced several things that set him on the path to become a civil rights leader. One was a discussion between his father and a physician, where the doctor criticized Black people for their language and behaviors. It seemed that the doctor felt that Black people were lazy and couldn't take care of themselves. This same doctor became Green's mentor as a teenager. As Green entered the civil rights movement, he often spoke with former friends, people that he had been in 'crusade' with, which included attending segregated events and boycotting white people. In one instance, Green admitted to attending segregated events but said that he felt that it was necessary to do so to stand up for the freedom of others. After participating in many civil rights marches and demonstrations, Greenreceived an award from the United Negro College Fund. He eventually decided to work for the National Urban League, which helped to find employment for many of the young acti vists in the civil rights movement. After this time, Green changed his lifestyle and started attending church, even though he felt that many of the people attending were not civil rights leaders. He also began working on behalf of the black population, particularly when he was involved in the New Freedom Movement. He said that he felt it was important to share this 'truth' with others. As he grew older, Green worked with the NAACP, representing Black workers during strikes at General Motors, among other things. After this time, he became interested in politics and ran for Congress, as he said he was 'a civil rights hero and I really didn't have a choice in the matter.'
