The Death Of An Unborn Fetus Should Be Viewed Through The...

One of the most influential philanthropists of all time, Mother Teresa, once explained that to her the greatest destructor of peace was â€Å"abortion, because it is a war against the child- a direct killing of the innocent child- murdered by the mother herself.† In the United States, four in ten of unintended pregnancies result in abortion culminating in approximately 1.21 million abortions each year.1 Abortion, defined as the removal of a fertilized egg from the uterus, has been a controversial issue in our society. On January 1973 the Supreme Court of the U.S gave the right to abortion on Roe vs Wade. This monumental decision gives the absolute right to abortion regardless of the stage of pregnancy, not limited to the first trimester as it†¦show more content†¦Furthermore, some believe that until the human embryo can sustain life independently it is not considered â€Å"alive†. However, the general definition of death is considered to be the cessation of the heart or the end of electrical activity in the brain. With this in mind, human development demonstrates that just twenty-two days after conception the heart begins to circulate and electrical activity can be detected as early as six to eight gestation weeks. Additionally, in today’s modern era parents are able to see the human development of their child before their eyes, with not only pictures but also live video. They get to see the child move, grasp its hands, kick its legs, and even smile as early as twenty weeks gestation. All of this serves to demonstrate that life begins at conception therefore defining abortion as murder of an unborn child. The claim that no one knows when life begins is a cheap justification that completely ignores the vast available knowledge of science and human development and instead chooses to defend individual beliefs based on politics, philosophy, or self gain.3 Statistics show that one and a half million American families wish to adopt a child, meaning that for every child adopted there are thirty-six couples waiting to adopt.4 That data alone is enough to demonstrate that
